Laser cut box generator

A tab and slot box from three numbers. Type the inside size, pick a sheet, and every panel is drawn with finger joints cut to that sheet's thickness and priced as you type. No CAD, no file.

Adjusted so every edge gets a whole, odd number of tabs.

No lid: five panels instead of six.

Material thickness .125 in, from the material you pick.

Tabs and slots are drawn to the material's listed thickness. The laser burns away a hairline of material on every cut (the kerf), and we don't compensate for it, so joints come out slightly loose rather than tight. A little wood glue or acrylic cement holds them for good.

How it works

From a size to a box in your hands

  1. 01

    Type the inside size

Width, depth and height of the space you need. The walls go on the outside.

  2. 02

    Pick the material

The tabs are drawn to its thickness, so a change of sheet redraws every joint.

  3. 03

    See every panel priced

Each panel is its own line, with matching panels counted together for quantity breaks.

Questions

Box generator FAQ

Are the dimensions inside or outside?
Inside. Type the space you need to hold and the generator adds the walls: the outside is the inside plus two material thicknesses each way (one on the height of an open-top box). The outside size shows under the drawing.
Will the tabs fit together?
Every tab is drawn to the thickness of the sheet you pick, and every joint has an odd number of tabs so the panels interlock the same way round. The laser burns away a hairline of material on each cut (the kerf), which we don't compensate for, so joints come out slightly loose rather than tight. A little glue holds them for good.
Can I make an open box or a tray?
Yes. Tick Open top and you get five panels: the bottom, front and back, and two sides, with a plain rim.
How big a box can you cut?
Inside dimensions up to 22 x 11 x 11 in, as long as every panel fits 23.2 x 11.6 in. The generator tells you which panel is too big if one doesn't.
Is the price for the whole box?
Yes. Each distinct panel is priced as its own part at the quantity it takes, so two boxes price the front-and-back panel at four. The order total has to come to at least $25.
