What we won't laser cut, and why
- PVC and vinyl
- Release chlorine gas when lasered.
- Polycarbonate
- Burns and yellows, with a poor edge.
- ABS
- Melts at the edge and gives off toxic fumes.
- HDPE and UHMW
- Melt and re-weld behind the beam, and catch fire.
- G10 and carbon fiber
- Hazardous glass, epoxy and carbon dust and fumes.
- Neoprene and Viton
- Chlorinated and fluorinated rubbers: corrosive fumes.
