Laser cutting material
Laser cut Delrin (acetal)
Delrin is the best-known brand of acetal homopolymer (POM). It is slick, stiff and tough, absorbs very little moisture, and holds its size, which makes it the engineering plastic for parts that slide, wear or mesh.

Fit
When delrin (acetal) is the right call
Laser cutting gives a smooth edge and any 2D shape at 1/8 in without tooling: gears, cams, spacers and guides in an afternoon instead of a machining queue.
Good for
- Spur gears and cams
- Spacers, shims and washers
- Wear strips and slides
- Bushings and cable guides
- Jig and fixture contact pads
Pick something else when
- It needs to be glued. Acetal is notoriously hard to bond; plan on screws, pins or snap fits.
- It needs to be clear or colored for looks. Acrylic is the display plastic.

Care and handling
Looking after delrin (acetal) parts
- Fasten mechanically. Most adhesives won't hold on acetal without special surface prep.
- It is happy dry. Low friction means it often runs without grease, though a light plastic-safe lubricant helps gears under load.
